Washington State PTA (WSPTA)

Our PTSA is a mem­ber of WSPTA, which is the old­est and largest non­prof­it grass­roots children’s advo­ca­cy asso­ci­a­tion in Wash­ing­ton state. Togeth­er we can strength­en our voice to improve the qual­i­ty of our children’s health, wel­fare, safe­ty, and edu­ca­tion.

Inter­est­ed in being Eagle Staff PTSA’s Advo­ca­cy Chair/Legislative Liai­son? In addi­tion to attend­ing most/all RESMS PTSA meet­ings, the per­son in this role:

• Attends Dis­trict and State PTSA meet­ings, con­fer­ences and work­shops. 
• Com­mu­ni­cates with Dis­trict and State PTSA coun­ter­parts and con­sults them for advice and assis­tance.
• Is famil­iar with PTSA Res­o­lu­tions and Posi­tion State­ments. 
• Estab­lish­es a method for shar­ing PTSA Leg­is­la­tion Action Alerts with oth­er PTSA mem­bers.
• Keeps mem­bers informed about leg­is­la­tion relat­ed to edu­ca­tion.
• Meets with local gov­ern­ment offi­cials and knows the local poli­cies and ordi­nances affect­ing chil­dren and youth. 
• Attends Lob­by Day and con­sid­ers par­tic­i­pat­ing in leg­is­la­tion study groups and infor­mal stud­ies of the issues, and attends Can­di­dates Forums. 
• Encour­ages mem­bers to vote and con­tact their leg­is­la­tors when rel­e­vant.
