Announcement from Principal Stowel

Announcement from Principal Stowell:

“Good afternoon, RESMS Families,

RESMS has been very fortunate to receive funding from the voter-approved City of Seattle Levy for the past six years. The 2025–26 school year will be the final year of this levy. While voters have approved a new levy, the City of Seattle is currently in the evaluation and planning phase for the next rollout. We expect to have a clearer picture of how these funds can be accessed by the end of June, with implementation beginning in the 2026–27 school year.

At this time, RESMS has received our budget allocation for next year, and it does not include levy funding. As a result, we are planning for the 2026–27 school year with an estimated $615,000 funding gap. Currently, levy funds support certificated teachers, counselors, mental health therapists, student and family advocate, a social worker, tutors, summer school, and additional staff time for collaboration and professional learning.

Compounding this challenge, Seattle Public Schools is facing an $80–100 million districtwide deficit, and our building allocation has also been reduced.

As always, we will navigate these challenges thoughtfully and responsibly. That said, there will be some difficult decisions ahead. Our highest priority is to make sound, data-driven choices that minimize the impact to the student Raven Experience. I ask for your trust as we take what we are handed and move forward collectively with intentionality, joy, and a continued commitment to our upward momentum as a community.

You may be wondering, “How can I advocate? Who should I contact?” For now, I ask that you continue supporting our school as you have been. If and when there are opportunities to elevate your voices with decision-makers, I will be sure to reach out.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

GO RAVENS!

Zac Stowell, Principal”

RESMS Super Bowl party

RESMS Super Bowl party

Louis Eaglestaff is hosting a RESMS Super Bowl party. He has supervision, but could always use a little more. This is to create a once in a lifetime experience with friends. I got mine 10 years ago, so I wanted to do this for my daughter and all our students. We would like everyone to sign up so we have an idea on numbers and how much pizza to  get.

From a current RESMS parent:

From a current RESMS parent:

Dear RESMS Parents and Guardians,

I am a concerned community member and parent of a student at RESMS. ICE has stepped up operations in Seattle with North and South King County being impacted the most by them. Abductions have occurred along Aurora and just a few blocks from the school. A few of us parents have decided to establish an ICE Watch school patrol. This is a parent/community organized and driven volunteer initiative! It is not a Seattle Public Schools initiative.

Parent and school communities have recently established ICE Watch school patrols at other schools within the district and there is a need for one at Eagle Staff.

The purpose of these ICE Watch school patrols is to immediately document and report any sightings of ICE that are in the immediate vicinity of the school. If you have Rapid Response training or are willing to attend a Rapid Response training, please consider volunteering a couple hours of time in the week to provide eyes on the ground and alert support for our RESMS students, staff, families, and community. We are emphasizing that this is the primary purpose of the ICE Watch school patrol and thus minimal interactions with students coming to and from RESMS is expected to best ensure child safety protocols are followed and to maintain the focus on the purpose of the patrol. The aim is ensure our presence is supportive, rather than distracting.

To share your interest and availability for joining the RESMS volunteer school patrol kindly complete the following sign up form: https://bit.ly/RESMSpatrol
