The WSPTA is hold­ing a Stu­dent Advo­ca­cy Night on Tues­day, Sep­tem­ber 15th from 6:30 PM — 7:30 PM, and we’d love for you to come. Here’s what we’re doing:
The Civics Cen­ter is com­ing to talk about how to run a vot­er reg­is­tra­tion dri­ve at your school. After that, we’ll go over a recog­ni­tion pro­gram where if your PTA hosts a dri­ve and sends us pho­tos, we’ll send back a cer­tifi­cate, pro­vide recog­ni­tion, and a prize! Our goal is to see as many PTAs/students host a vot­er dri­ve as pos­si­ble. More infor­ma­tion will be shared at the event.
Then we’ll have the WSPTA Advo­ca­cy Direc­tor on to answer ques­tions: how the Leg­isla­tive Assem­bly actu­al­ly works, how an issue ends up on the leg­isla­tive plat­form, and what a stu­dent can real­is­ti­cal­ly do if there’s some­thing they want to change, and much more. Stu­dents will have time to ask their own ques­tions too.
Please pre­pare as many ques­tions as you’d like to ask! This is a great way to come learn why stu­dents should attend Leg­isla­tive Assem­bly too! Parents/Guardians are always allowed to join and lis­ten but this is a stu­dent lead work­shop run by stu­dents for stu­dents. Reg­is­ter today!

We are host­ing our first ever Wash­ing­ton State PTA Essay Prompt Con­test! Every year, the PTA runs an essay con­test open to Kinder­garten­ers through 12th Graders, giv­ing them a chance to share their ideas, cre­ativ­i­ty, thought­ful­ness, great ideas, and their writ­ing skills. Through this con­test, we aim to inspire and encour­age cre­ativ­i­ty in young minds across the state.
This year, we are intro­duc­ing anoth­er con­test to accom­pa­ny the essay con­test – the Essay Prompt Con­test! In this con­test, stu­dents tell us some­thing they would like to write about – a prompt for the actu­al essay con­test. From Sep­tem­ber 1 to Octo­ber 12 at 10:00 PM, stu­dents are able to send their ideas for a thought­ful, cre­ative, deep, and inter­est­ing prompt to be select­ed. If their prompt/theme is select­ed, they will receive a $25 Ama­zon Gift Card, and be hon­ored at the stu­dent pro­grams cel­e­bra­tion! There are sep­a­rate cat­e­gories for grades K‑2, 3–5, 6–8, and 9–12. From each cat­e­go­ry, the top 3 prompts will be select­ed.
Ulti­mate­ly, the suc­cess of this com­pe­ti­tion is depen­dent on the par­tic­i­pa­tion we receive. Please send this out to your school and com­mu­ni­ty, and help us encour­age stu­dents across the state to express their love for writ­ing! Ques­tions? Leg­isla­tive Assem­bly is for Stu­dents!
Stu­dents are wel­come to come and join us at Leg­isla­tive Assem­bly on Octo­ber 17th and 18th at Cas­ca­dia Col­lege!
We encour­age stu­dents to come and vote for the Top 5 Leg­isla­tive Prin­ci­ples. Learn about the work that WSPTA does in advo­ca­cy, learn about par­lia­men­tary pro­ce­dure from experts, meet and engage with oth­er stu­dents from around the state and have grow your voice to help cre­ate bet­ter schools in Wash­ing­ton!
